Nordplus Horizontal conference “Study quality in terms of multiculturalism in the Baltic countries”
On October 26, 2018 within the framework of Nordplus Horizontal project NPHZ-2017/10151 representatives from ten higher education institutions from Latvia, Estonia and Lithuania participated in the conference “Study quality in terms of multiculturalism in the Baltic countries”, which took place in Talinn Health Care College, Estonia. From Latvia there were representatives from Turiba University, Higher Education Export Association and P.Stradins Medical College of the University of Latvia.
In the conference all engaged partners shared and discussed their
experiences and best practices on what are the main challenges in a
multicultural classroom from study cases in each of the partner institutions,
examined the model of a multicultural classroom from the teacher’s perspective,
the hardship
of human race - finding the common and defining the differences and were
introduced with Erasmus Plus Experience between Estonia and Jamaica “3D Spatial
Thinking as a Teaching Tool in a Multicultural Curriculum”.
The
conference made an overview that multiculturalism is indeed inevitable today’s
reality in universities, colleges and schools in all Baltic countries. Teachers
and administrative staff have to prepare their mindset for culturally diverse
student environment and new everyday challenges. In this way they need to adapt
and learn new study approaches and working methods, as students come from
different cultures with different backgrounds and experiences. Multicultural
classroom develops our education environment, working organization and mutual
communication, as well as the country itself, therefore we should be ready to support
and help institutions with internationalization processes at all kind of levels.
